Curious about AUM?
From five business students in 2012 to a university in the middle of Ulaanbaatar: where AUM came from, where it is, and what life here is actually like.

From five students to AUM
AUM officially began in 2012 as LETU Mongolia, a business undergraduate program with only five students, and grew from there. The partnership with LeTourneau University was signed in 2013, the first exchange students went to LeTourneau in 2014–2015, and the first class graduated in 2016. In 2024, LETU Mongolia rebranded as the American University of Mongolia we know today.
Our U.S. partner: LeTourneau University

LeTourneau University is AUM's partner university in the United States. Founded in 1946 by R.G. LeTourneau, a renowned inventor, it is located in Longview, Texas, about two hours east of Dallas. LeTourneau's legacy reaches Mongolia, too: mining companies here use equipment originally designed by its founder.
LeTourneau is ranked #27 among western U.S. universities and is known for its engineering and aviation programs. It welcomes international students. Through the LETU 2+2 program, students can complete two years of study in Mongolia at AUM before continuing their education at LeTourneau in the United States. Eligible students may qualify for a scholarship covering up to 100% of tuition for one year at LeTourneau. TOEFL, IELTS, and SAT scores are not required for admission to the program.

American-style student life
Student life at AUM is busy with both study and fun: accredited, stimulating courses balanced with weekly community events, clubs, and big holiday celebrations.
The American influence runs strong. Students take their classes American style, free to choose their own classes and schedule. They speak English every day and celebrate American holidays like Thanksgiving and Halloween, plus the annual university potluck.
